Love beyond distances and pandemic.
The novel COVID-19 conscripted a nation-wide lockdown from late March, progressing till May in India. Roughly 50 days of one’s life confined within 4 walls, sure does bring an enormous change. In spite of a few professions and businesses coming to a standstill, innovations didn't cease and people still made news everyday. Recently, a very queer news I accidentally stumbled on, blew my mind to an inconceivable realm of love and compassion that I never knew, existed.
Being in love is one of the most incredible feeling in the world. There is no substitute. Legend has it that, one becomes blind when in love and does things one would have never imagined when in love. But I always believed that there is a threshold for all these selfless acts. How much would you sacrifice for the love of your life? How much pain would you bear? How far would you go?
Well, one man went as far as 800km, barefoot, to reach his home town, wheeling his pregnant wife and a 2 year old kid on a cart, crafted by him, for 17 nights and days. His family relied on biscuits and stranger’s kindness to satisfy their tummies. Was love the only driving factor, that gave him the strength and grit to perform such an insurmountable task?
Another case in central India, where a friendship stirred between a carpenter and a tourist during the quarantine, hit the news channels. The tourist helped the carpenter travel 350kms in his tricycle to reach his hometown. Can love prevail at such critical times?
To love, one does not need money or education. To love, one does not need power. They say hope can move mountains. Well, then love can move oceans. Love can exist in hopeless situations like a beam of light passing inside through a cracked window of a dark room. Love can be a catalyst for your motivation and enthusiasm. Love can add meaning to your existence. Love can make you a better human.
